# HfI2 frozen-slab separation review

- POSCAR area: 10.848221494426 Ų.
- Accepted scan points: 20; excluded directories: 7.
- Accepted distances: d=0 and d=2…20 Å. The nominal d=1 Å attempts are not accepted: scf_d1 has no OUTCAR and scf_d1.00 is an incomplete static SCF.
- Energy field used throughout: OUTCAR energy without entropy, eV/cell.
- At d=20 Å, ΔE=248.09474000 meV/cell and W=0.3664117622 J/m².
- The d=16…20 Å five-point energy spread is 0.77266 meV/cell; the d=19→20 Å change is -0.42288 meV/cell.

Interpretation: these values describe the frozen six-layer, prototype-derived slab under one specified layer-separation operation. The d=0 reference is itself a six-layer slab, not a bulk calculation. The finite-distance energy and non-monotone high-distance spread do not establish a bulk-referenced exfoliation energy or a converged asymptote.
